POLARISED LENS TECHNOLOGY

CLARITY OF VISION

Ambient light or the light we see consists of light waves that vibrate in a number of different directions. However, these light waves are often reflected off flat or shiny surfaces. These reflective surfaces concentrate the light causing the vibrations of these light waves to travel in the same direction as opposed to being scattered in a random fashion. These intense uni-directional waves are known as “polarised” light waves. Polarised light waves are many times brighter than non-polarised light and are otherwise known as “glare”.

WHAT IS POLARISED LIGHT?

Ambient light or the light we see consists of light waves that vibrate in a number of different directions. However, these light waves are often reflected off flat or shiny surfaces. These reflective surfaces concentrate the light causing the vibrations of these light waves to travel in the same direction as opposed to being scattered in a random fashion. WHAT ARE MAKO POLARISED LENSES?

Mako Polarised lenses are manufactured using a special material designed to absorb polarised light waves before they reach your eyes, however still allowing most of the ambient light through for better visual acuity.  This optically engineered polarising material is a very thin membrane sandwiched between two pieces of optically ground lens material to filter out 99% of all reflected light for maximum eye protection.

BENEFITS OF POLARISED LENSES

Polarised lenses block out a lot of scattered and reflected light.  For example, if you look at water in a pool with a standard lens, it is difficult to see an object under water clearly.  This is due to the fact that the surface of the water is reflecting light from all different directions.  Polarised lenses however, filter those reflected rays so you can see below the surface of the water much more clearly.

WHY SHOULD I PURCHASE A PAIR OF MAKO SUNGLASSES?

Glare reduces visual acuity causing eyestrain due to large concentrations of short wave violet and blue light. The greater the amount of light received the greater the glare. Glare is approximately 7 to 10 times brighter than normal light. As the eye tries to adjust to glare, it constricts the pupil to reduce the amount of light coming in. Looking at glare can cause squinting, tired eyes and headaches. Mako Polarised sunglasses eliminate reflected glare thereby reducing the side effects caused by glare.

WHAT IS ULTRAVIOLET RADIATION?

Ultraviolet radiation is mostly comprised of invisible light that falls between 100 and 400 nanometres (nm) and the primary source of ultraviolet radiation is from the sun. The long term effects of ultraviolet radiation slowly cause visual impairment. The Australian Standard for sunglasses specifies that sunglasses must cut out 99% of all UV rays. Mako Polarised sunglasses guarantee you this maximum ultraviolet protection.

MAKO SUPERIOR LENS SYSTEM

Mako's superior polarised lens system provides exceptional performance for all sports and recreational activities. Our polarised superior lens system is designed to provide you with superb high contrast resolution and clear precise vision under a wide range of difficult lighting conditions.

Mako polarised superior lens system guarantees maximum UV protection.

Mako offers 6 types of lenses all specially suited to different conditions or just personal preference.

NXT® LENSES

NXT® was first developed for military use to meet a specific need, which was to provide a bulletproof material that is lightweight, durable and capable of offering the maximum protection. This technology is now being used to produce the most impact resistant, lightweight, durable and optically correct polarised sunglass lenses ever available. This lens is perfect for the sports person who needs light weight eyewear while still offering complete sun protection. NXT® is impact resistant and has a lifetime guarantee.

ZRX LENSES

This neutral grey polarised glass lens offers the highest glare reduction available. It is chemically toughened, durable and has a high scratch resistance. Recommended for all light conditions especially bright direct sunlight.

TRX LENSES

This brown polarised glass lens increases contrast, is chemically toughened, durable, and has high scratch resistance. Recommended for hazy overcast conditions and freshwater fishing.

KRX LENSES

This photochromatic copper or brown polarised glass lens will provide you with premium visual comfort indoors and outdoors. This lens changes shade to adjust to the level of light. When outdoors the exposure to the sun causes a chemical reaction that darkens the lens to adjust to the level of UV exposure. When indoors the absence of UV rays causes this reaction to reverse. It is particularly suitable for driving and fishing.

PRX LENSES

Impact resistance and lightweight polycarbonate polarised lenses make this lens the perfect choice for an active lifestyle. This lens system is designed for performance and durability and is virtually shatter proof.

NXT® VARIA® LENSES

This polarised photochromatic lens made from NXT® material is not only super light weight but offers extreme durability, and has the added benefits of the photochromatic lens which changes shade to adjust to varying outdoor light conditions. NXT® is impact resistant and has a lifetime guarantee.

DECENTRED GLASS AND POLYCARBONATE POLARISED 8 BASE LENSES

All Mako 8 base polarised lenses are decentred.

Decentred lenses move the optical centre of the lens inwards towards the bridge of the frame to prevent prismatic distortion. The 8 base decentred lenses allows Mako sunglasses to use extremely curved frames while still providing distortion free vision.

Since the 6 base polarised lenses are not used in curved frames there is no need for them to be decentred
